People are doing eligibility posts and the idea of doing one makes me feel awkward. I’m also seeing lots of helpfully-intended things from people saying (in general) ‘don’t feel awkward about self-promotion’ but those make me feel both guilty and weird for not wanting to do an eligibility post. Then I feel even weirder because now I’m writing a post about (gasp!) feelings!
So this will do. Things wot I wrote in 2017. Oh – and they are still full of spelling errors. 🙂
Some Popular Things
These posts got lots and lots of hits.
Over three thousand views for this post: https://camestrosfelapton.wordpress.com/2017/03/29/a-message-from-the-ceo-of-cattimothy-house/ Zoiks! That’s the power of having John Scalzi point at something. It’s the make your own fake book cover post.
Speaking of which, this post did rather well also: https://camestrosfelapton.wordpress.com/2017/03/24/reading-corrosion-so-you-dont-have-to/ I review Vox Day’s weak attempt to cash in on John Scalzi’s new book. It’s like some appalling food web in which I’m zooplankton feeding on the rotting corpse of a seagull that over ate while chasing a commercial trawler. 🙂
Speaking of strange entities feeding on the dying corpses, the disintergration of the campaign previously known as Sad Puppies generated a hefty number of hits: https://camestrosfelapton.wordpress.com/2017/06/26/sad-popcorn/
And this post did rather well also and for some reason is getting lots of hits again this week: https://camestrosfelapton.wordpress.com/2017/06/14/and-i-would-have-got-away-with-it-too/
I wrote a lot on the Dragon Awards. This post didn’t get the most hits of them but the others were more news orientated https://camestrosfelapton.wordpress.com/2017/08/11/fixing-the-dragon-awards-isnt-my-problem/
I’m skipping over some Puppy related stuff but in the end Puppy/Rabid coverage does tend to get more hits.
Tangentially related I liked these two popular posts on Ursula Le Guin: https://camestrosfelapton.wordpress.com/2017/09/19/science-and-le-guin-part-1/
https://camestrosfelapton.wordpress.com/2017/09/20/science-and-le-guin-part-2/
Things Not About Puppies
I liked this post in which I can’t work out how to go about voting for the Hugo Award for best series https://camestrosfelapton.wordpress.com/2017/04/06/hugo-2017-how-to-vote-for-best-series/
It’s a year old! This was fun https://camestrosfelapton.wordpress.com/2017/01/05/a-cat-reviews-la-la-land/
This is just part of a lot of work I did around Too Like the Lightning https://camestrosfelapton.wordpress.com/2017/05/01/review-too-like-the-lightning-by-ada-palmer-hugo2017/ The whole set of Notes Ignota are here https://camestrosfelapton.wordpress.com/category/notes-ignota/ <- I can believe I wrote all that. I should collect it together in some way.
I love maps and Alex Acks’s and Paul Weimer’s fun discussion of fantasy maps set me off on my own course here https://camestrosfelapton.wordpress.com/2017/09/28/the-plot-elements-of-fantasy-maps/
Everybody is talking about The Last Jedi and I did as well https://camestrosfelapton.wordpress.com/2017/12/20/rian-johnson-murders-the-prequels-a-spoiler-soaked-review-of-the-last-jedi/
Most of the work on this was done by regular commenter KR with help from Mark – Who the Heck was Herny Still. Nice to have collaborators who aren’t talking animals for a change! https://camestrosfelapton.wordpress.com/2017/10/21/who-the-heck-was-henry-still-a-felapton-towers-special-investigation/
This post kicked off my coverage of Star Trek Discovery https://camestrosfelapton.wordpress.com/2017/09/26/thoughts-on-star-trek-discovery-episodes-1-2/

I still don’t know what this was about: https://camestrosfelapton.wordpress.com/2017/05/03/timothy-and-the-fancy-restaurant/
Beware the Cat! https://camestrosfelapton.wordpress.com/category/beware-the-cat/ <- another thing that needs putting together more cohesively.
Technically this is by a Triceratops rather than Camestros Felapton https://camestrosfelapton.wordpress.com/2017/11/23/1-ask-a-triceratops/
Subtle political satire! https://camestrosfelapton.wordpress.com/2017/11/26/in-americas-heartland-the-demonic-spider-monster-next-door/

I think Beware The Cat was a bit of a favourite of mine – something I’d never heard of before, and kinda fascinating.

Yeah – I was going to put it on Smashwords but I think they don’t like people re-publishing public domain stuff. I might use it to experiment with making ePub & mobi files directly.

I’d suggest the title “The Annotated Cat” but it turns out that’s been taken by a Dr Seuss study!

I’m going with ‘Beware the ANNOTATED Cat”

Beware the bodycammed brat?
(fun bit of collaboration, but embarrassed to be known as a regular commenter!)

McEdifice alone is Hugo-worthy, as is the TLTL exegesis.

Timothy says the question is whether the Hugo’s are Mcedifice worthy:)
