The Satsuma Spider God First Drives Its Victims Into Incoherence

I’ve had a rash of comments that make very little sense and as I look elsewhere I see an increasing descent into nonsense from conservatives/right-wingers.

I’ll pick on Vox Day for example:

Vox: 10/12/2016 11:00 am:

Hillary Clinton appears increasingly likely to win the presidential election.

Vox: 10/13/2016 8:45 am

I have never wavered from my belief that Trump will win this election.

Aside from yesterday at 11 am?

Trump is and always has been a bad candidate. The only way he could possibly win was to bluster past and run faster than the multiple scandals that he created and creating new scandals to distract from the old ones. Trump has been running a kind of Ponzi scheme of belief and the question about any such Ponzi scheme is not WILL it collapse but WHEN it will collapse.

I’ll give this much credit to anybody who supported him KNOWING how poor a candidate he was – that the whole scheme is really only collapsing NOW in October before an election in early November does suggest that maybe he could have made it to the finishing line before the whole mess of scandals aggregated.

Don’t forget Hillary has the undead vote sewed up. Vox may be nervous about that. Also he’s an egoist, so can be expected to say contradictory things periodically.

“Trump is and always has been a bad candidate.”

Trump, for all his obvious faults, has correctly identified and acted upon the National Mood in the USA. Which you wouldn’t be able to measure, being in Oz. Suffice to say, the US National Mood is -cranky-. People are not content to sit there and take it anymore. (Hence Sad Puppies and Gamergate incidentally, it is a continuity of cranky.)

Enter Mr. Trump, who is not running against Hillary. He doesn’t have to. She’s f-ing radioactive. Trump is running against the MEDIA.

And they are running against him. They have pulled out all the stops and are playing the Hillary song as loud as they can go.

Nobody cares. Media Amplifier turned to 11, he’s ahead in the polls again today.

Being in Canada, mr. phantom knows everything about how we feel down here in Murica. He knows because (1) Vox tells him and Vox knows because he lives in Italy (2) also he [apparently] reads a bunch of truly fringe far-right blogs and (c) he took a trip through Murica once and bought some gas at this gas station where he listened to some people talking.

Also, everyone in Murica is exactly alike, feels exactly the same way, and has the same exact thoughts about everything.

      1) You apparently missed the second sentence of my above comment re: Vox. Please re-read.
      2) truly fringe far-right blog = Drudge Report.
      3) Lived all over the USA from NY to AZ to MN. Know lots of people. Most of them are pissed. The ones who aren’t, I don’t have much time for. Because they’re either -stupid- or they’re government workers.

Also, ad hominem is not an actual argument. Just thought you should know.

You mean the one where you repeat your silly conspiracy theory? How convincing.

        2) truly fringe far-right blog = Drudge Report.

Yes. Did you not know this?

        3) Lived all over the USA from NY to AZ to MN. Know lots of people.

Currently Trump is trailing in the polls in two of those three states. He trailing by between 11 and 25 points in polls in New York, and by between 2 to 9 points in Minnesota. Are you sure you know “lots of people”, or maybe you just know a few like-minded people who share your alt-right ideology?

No, the part where I mention Vox. Are you reading disabled? And I see that now voter fraud is a conspiracy theory. M’kay, whatever. That datum gets filed next to Drudge = far-right fringe.

You should probably shut up now.

The fact that you don’t realize this is the case is how everyone knows you’re a delusional fool off in alt-right land. Drudge has always been a right wing gossip site, and has gotten further and further to the right over the years. Citing it for anything essentially destroys any credibility you might have.

You should probably shut up now.

I know you’d like that, since you continue to look completely ridiculous when your stupidity is pointed out.

Look on the bright side. There is a reasonable chance that the U.S. will not auto destruct by electing Trump. On this side of the pond large numbers of people are having a rapid introduction to the fact that markets don’t work the way they thought they did, if, in fact, they had ever thought about markets at all. As sterling endeavours to reach Australia via the earth’s core, and the nation is, albeit briefly, bereft of Marmite, the political Ponzi scheme known as Brexit is coming unstuck. Unfortunately it is going to take a great deal longer than a Presidential term to discover what can be salvaged from the wreckage, but I’m not hugely optimistic.

Strange as it sounds, I think you are in a better place than we are.

I’ve just been reading about the Marmite thing – zoiks. I realize that it is just a tiny tip of a monstrous economic iceberg but it shows the kind of mess that cynical political appeals to nationalism can create by adopting simplistic policy.

Over here, I’m just depressed that both the UK and the US seem to have turned into bizarre dystopias, cause that’s two English speaking countries to visit lost. That leaves Ireland and Canada (Phantom notwithstanding) as well as Australia and New Zealand, though I’m not sure my health can handle flights that long anymore.

Much of the US is still sane, Cora. Stick to the coasts (except the South) and you’re fine. I mean, depending on how the election goes. Fly to the northeast for a few days, then to the west coast. You’d like California. If you come to my area (the greater San Francisco Bay), we can meet up. Today it’s raining, but yesterday it was 75 degrees and sunny.

Canada is very nice, too; not very religious, a great PM — just skip Alberta, which is Texas with snow. Vancouver is awesome, as is Montreal if you don’t mind their funny version of French.

Since I can’t stand Marmite or Vegemite (the latter is slightly less vile, but awful is awful past a certain point), I’d be more worried about the Ben and Jerry’s. Look on the bright side — no Lynx body spray smelling up the country.

More than anything else (except perhaps how fantastic it’s been at spotlighting the Crazy 30% of the American Polity), this is what has truly impressed me about the Trump campaign – that this sort of Cock-up Cascade was actually an effective strategy, in the medium term anyway.

Also, screw Marmite. If you want a terrible tasting salty spread, Vegemite or GTFO.

Considering how often Trump denies he said things that are on the record — even contradicting himself in the same speech — is it any wonder that Teddy did the same? At least he waited over 24 hours before contradicting himself, that’s like a century in Trump time.
