Ha, something very un-Australian! Belgian no less and mighty nice it was too! http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/leffe-radieuse/2512/

Leffe is a very good beer from a country that produces a lot of very fine beers. Though my personal favourite beer from Belgium is Rochefort 10.

I shall seek it out and drink it!

I’ve always liked beer and the north of England has lots of good everyday beers. It was really only coming to Australia and finding that standard beers were ick that I felt the need to seek out more interesting beers.

Enjoy! Rochefort 10 used to be the sort of beer you needed to buy in Belgium and take home, but it started to show up abroad, first in specialty stores and now even in my regular suburban drinks market (a German thing: basically supermarkets that carry nothing but drinks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic).

Leffe is nice, but even though it pretends to be an abbey beer, it’s made by evil international giant InBev (I’m from Bremen and InBev bought up the local brewery Becks and ruined a lot about it, so I have bad feelings about them). Rochefort is the real thing, brewed by real monks at a real Trappiste abbey in the town of Rochefort in Belgium, which also boasts a spectacular cavern with an underwater lake.

The only Australian beer we get here is Foster’s, which is not very good. England, of course, has a lot of very fine beers.

Non-Australians sometimes drink Foster’s, though I attribute it more to a very clever ad campaign some years ago than to the actual quality of the beer.

Same in the UK – Paul “Crocodile Dundee” Hogan in quite funny ads.
Its sort of like Liptons Tea which seems to market itself as quite British internationally but has little presence in the UK

At first glance I thought it said “Lefse Radieuse” and I figured you must be running out of sunday beers left to try 🙂

I initially thought the beer was called “Lesse”, since with some Fraktur/Blackletter type fonts the lower case f and s look similar. Plus, there is a river called Lesse in the Belgian region to beer is from, so Lesse would have made sense.
