How Rendering Punctures My Technological Hubris

I’ve ten seconds of two spaceships flying past each other (done for no reason other than fun). I’ve really no idea how it will look. It started rendering, frame-by-frame Friday evening and it is still going.

Nearly there. In the meantime, I get to contemplate how, as I’ve got faster and faster machines, I’ve always found some task for them to do that is sssssllllloooowwww.

  1. You need a stack of PS4s. Couple dozen of those will rip through your rendering issue in minutes.

Of course the care and feeding of a cluster like that is no small matter…

      • Upon further research, it turns out that Sony has made it difficult to cluster PS4s and newer PS3s. Typical. Still, a bunch of crappy old PS2s could be had for a song from some rental place I’m sure.

People are having good results with Raspi clusters too, they render pretty quick these days.
