  1. If you exclude declines, Fan Writer, Fan Artist, maybe Editor LongForm, Short Story, and Novelette would have pure Puppy, and may have resulted in 2-3 more No Awards as well.

  2. If you think that they deserve at least a heavily footnoted kingmaker point for fan writer, than the same is true for graphic story. The original Sandman is absolutely without question the series most popular among the group “comics fans active in sf fandom”. A follow-up story was a massively overdetermined win.

  3. I move that they lose at least the other +1 in the graphic story category (for “No Awarding non-puppies”). All the five finalists were from the Rabid Puppy slate in the first place, even though VD later announced that he is only voting for Sandman, so it was a bad result for four Puppy candidates. (Which is a pity because I actually thought Invisible Republic was better than Sandman.)

  4. -10 for prompting Neil Gaimon to include in his acceptance speech “It meant a lot to see “Sandman” nominated for the Hugo award. And was disappointing to see it had been dragged into the unfortunate mess that the pitiful people who call themselves “puppies” had attempted to inflict upon Worldcon and its awards. I would have withdrawn it from consideration but even that seemed like it would be giving the sad losers too much acknowledgement.”

    • You forget, Day is an utter addict to attention of *any* sort. Even an indirect swipe by someone of Gaiman’s status is enough to make him go weak at the knees.

    • The irony of an author complaining that his work was liked by the wrong people is completely lost on you all, isn’t it? Just goes right over your heads.

      However, this was a true victory for Social Justice. You beat the Puppies! My congratulations, you really showed ’em what you’re made of.

    • If Neil had withdrawn, “Bitch Planet” would have made the ballot. I’m a bit sorry that didn’t happen.
