The Castalia House (i.e. Rabid) Finalists

Among other things the Rabid Hugo strategy is part of Vox Day’s publicity stunt campaign for his hobby publishing house. Given destroying the Hugo awards is effectively part of the marketing of Castalia House products it is worth noting which finalists are associated with it (I’ve also counted the one nominee straight from VDs blog). Thirteen in total.

  1. Thanks for this. My current method is to ignore everything related to Castalia, and this certainly helps.

  2. I colored-coded my list the other day for Castalia/related (your 13 list, 12 of which I already had, thanks again BTW); items/people that are problematical/trolling/definitely on one ‘cuz of the slate/other issues I have with them; ones I doubt would’ve made the ballot without slates but I know too little to be sure (more research needed); ones I suspect would’ve made it regardless (e.g., “The Martian”); and items not on the RP slate. Additionally, I flagged (thanks to Mike Glyer’s list) ones from the SP4 rec list, though in most cases I suspect it did little. I just like to see all info and my personal tagging all in one place.

Obviously, my middle three categories are mostly VERY subjective, until the post-awards stats come out, if not beyond. And I’m not saying anything (other than those 13, probably) will get automatically left off my ballot, but most in my second category probably will get left off my ballot.

There’s still a to of reading ahead. 😉 I’m not even done with Uprooted!
