  • Very draft: Kerfuffle timeline – Prelude to Kerfufflation

urrggghhh it is like a box of recursive kerfuffles. An attempt map out a timeline has got plagued with having to keep going back to prior to 2015 to include things that people refer back to during the kerfuffle. So to answer why ‘rabid’ or why ‘evil league of evil’ and so on we have […]

  • Emojification

This is enormous fun: Upload a picture and the app pixelates it with emoji pixels. Below an emojified stuffed puppy. I’m reminded of the Nedroid cartoon here

  • Reason Hell: False Balance

Guilty as charged. I had a lot of fun with my recent map but it also neatly demonstrates a modern scourge – false balance. In a conflict it is easy to treat two sides of a conflict as being equal in all things in an attempt to appear impartial. Even from a particular perspective (e.g. […]

  • The Guardian’s list of the 100 best novels written in English

Is here A bit thin of SF/F: Frankenstein, 1984, The Wind in the Willows and some others…

  • Unfeasible tales SJFS: Vampires, jetpacks, feminists

The World of Pillars. A tract of space – geometrically flat but which bristled with vast rocky cylinders. Fog below hid any true ground and thick cloud above hid any sight of stars. Day was a brightening of the sky that lasted for six hours. At night darkness was nearly complete. Clinging to ledges, crevices […]

  • Sunday beer: Mango beer

Beer with mango – not as bad as it sounds.

  • Comparing Kerfuffles: Atheism + and social justice and stuff

A reply to a comment at File 770 that kind of ran away from me and was also both on & off topic in a some sort of quantum superposition of relevance. <blockquote>David W. on August 15, 2015 at 11:09 am said: True, but they also said that atheism should lead one to support social […]

  • Thanks for the map love, everybody

Thank you everyone for the map-love and traffic. Non-puppies, No Awarders, Rabid Puppies, Filkers, Superversives, Sad Puppies, GamerGate (?), File770 denizens, Twitterers (Tweeters?) and Facebooky people. The WordPress graph has two spikes now. And it also spawned this unlikely juxtaposition when I searched on Twitter.

  • Reason Hell: The Dunning Kruger effect

A short Reason Hell this week. The Dunning-Kruger effect has had a lot of publicity bu one of the things I really like about it is that one of the papers by Justin Kruger and David Dunning is just so readable. It also has one of the best anecdotes ever used in a serious and […]

  • Han Bayesian Solo

I really wanted to write a decent post about Bayes theorem but now I don’t have to. This  one  is  much  better.
